St Mary's Notices - 25th February 2024

Please join us this Sunday for Morning Worship at 10am and Evening Communion at 6pm [both with Advocate]. This week the readings are Genesis 17:1-7,15-16 and Mark 8:31-38 and we’ll be thinking about Jesus’ challenging call to his followers to ‘take up your cross’. There will be a children’s group during the 10am service and an advocate slot on behalf of Hope Against Cancer at both services (see below for prayer pointers). Everyone welcome!

Mossy Church – Saturday 24th February at 3pm

At Mossy Church this month we are thinking about being blind, hearing the story of a blind beggar and making paint brushes to use with mud paint. Followed by marshmallows and hot chocolate!

Tower Group Meeting – Friday 23rd February at 8pm

The next meeting will be at the Forest Gate (i.e. the Toby Carvery on Forest Road) on Friday 23rd February. We start between 8pm and 8:15pm. All men are welcome to join us over a drink and friendly discussions about work, St. Mary’s, local issues, and people’s interests.

St Mary's Notices - 18th February 2024

We would love you to join us for one of our services this Sunday 18th February. All-Together Communion will be at 10am and Evening Worship will take place at 6pm. Liz Rawlings will be leading us in thinking about new beginnings with God. There will be a children’s group at the 10am service. This week’s readings are Genesis 9:8-17 and Mark 1:9-15.

Ash Wednesday Service - Wednesday 14th February at 7:30pm

All are welcome to join us for this traditional communion service to mark the beginning of Lent, a time of reflection, self-denial, and study over the days to Easter. There will be the opportunity to receive the sign of the cross in ashes, an ancient sign of penitence.

Midweek Communion – Ash Wednesday 14th February at 11:30am

All are welcome to join us for a short service of communion with the option of ashing, followed by a simple but delicious soup lunch! Recognising health concerns, we will continue serving communion by intinction. Please invite friends and think if there is anyone who might welcome a lift.

Monday Morning Group – Monday 12th February at 10:15am

Our next meeting is at Emmanuel on the 12th of February - a talk, ‘A Vet’s Life’, by a retired vet. We start with coffee at 10:15am and look forward to welcoming any and all ladies and gentlemen.

St Mary's Notices - 11th February 2024

Please join us for All-Together Worship at 10am and Evening Communion at 6pm this Sunday. The readings this week are 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 and Mark 9:2-9 – the story of the Transfiguration. We’ll be exploring
the gospel reading at both services – in a more interactive way in the morning and with communion at 6pm.

Eve Piano Trio Concert – REARRANGED for Friday 9th February 7:30pm at St Mary’s

If you feel like enjoying a relaxing and uplifting evening with music and refreshments, the EVE Piano Trio will be presenting a concert on Friday 9th Feb at St Mary’s. Playing classical favourites including Haydn’s Gypsy Trio, movements from Schubert’s beautiful Piano Trio and seasonal music - including music from the Nutcracker, the Skaters’ Waltz and more! The concert starts at 7:30pm and tickets are free, but as space is limited, please book in advance (details are in the newsletter). Everybody welcome - please support our concert and church by donating at the end – thank you!

St Mary’s Ladies Meeting – Tuesday 6th February at 10:30am

The St Mary’s Ladies Meeting will take place on Tuesday, 6th February at 10:30 am. This will be a planning meeting for the new year. We will continue to support the Food Bank and the current list of requirements includes Sugar, Coffee, Toothpaste, Toilet Rolls, Biscuits and small tins of Tomatoes, Beans, Meat and Vegetables suitable for a single person. All donations are gratefully accepted. Please contact the parish office for details of the venue: admin@stmaryincharnwood.org.uk. New members are always welcome.

St Mary's Notices - 4th February 2024

Everyone is very welcome to join us for All-Together Communion at 10am and Evensong at 6pm this Sunday 4th February. The theme of this week’s service is ‘Kingdom Culture’ and the readings are Isaiah 25:6-9 and Matthew 6:25-34.
