The death of a loved one is one of the most painful events we have to go through and we would like to offer what support we can. A funeral is an opportunity to mourn a death but also to remember and celebrate the life lived and commend the person into God’s keeping. It can be a small, quiet ceremony or a large occasion in a packed church.
Anyone is able to ask a Church of England minister to take a funeral for someone they knew and loved. Neither the person who has died nor the person asking has to be a regular church goer. If you choose to have a Church of England funeral, one of our ministers will visit you to listen to the story of the person you knew, and will go through all the details of the funeral service itself. Our ministers will also conduct services at the crematorium.
The Church of St Mary in Charnwood has a bereavement team and someone from that team can offer support after the funeral if that would be helpful. We also have an annual memorial service and families for whom we have conducted funerals will all receive an invitation.
